Notice on Holding the 15th Science Popularization Creativity and Innovation Competition of the School of Computer Science and Information (School of Artificial Intelligence) and the Intra-school Selection for the 15th "Double Hundred" Competition in Anhui

The 15th Anhui Province Science Popularization Creativity and Innovation Competition for Hundreds of Colleges and Millions of Students (from now on referred to as the "Double Hundred" Competition), hosted by the Anhui Science and Technology Association, the Provincial Department of Education, and the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, has commenced. To select outstanding projects for participation in the provincial competition, our school has decided to hold the 15th Science Popularization Creativity and Innovation Competition and the intra-school selection for the "Double Hundred" Competition. The relevant matters are at this moment notified as follows:

I. Guiding Ideology

Guiding and assisting young students to firmly establish a sense of social responsibility, vigorously carrying forward the scientific spirit, actively participating in scientific communication practices, continuously enhancing innovative and entrepreneurial abilities, mobilizing the whole society to care further for, assist, and support young students in innovation and entrepreneurship, and promoting the formation of a favorable social atmosphere for mass entrepreneurship and innovation. This will make new contributions to improving the scientific literacy of all citizens and writing a new chapter on the modernization and prosperity of Anhui.

III. Participants

All undergraduate and graduate students (from now on referred to as "university students") from the School of Computer Science and Information (School of Artificial Intelligence) of Hefei University of Technology. When forming a team, the number of members should be at most 6.

IV. Content of the Competition

The competition entries mainly include two categories: science popularization works and science popularization performances. Priority will be given to works in cutting-edge and advantageous fields such as quantum information, fusion energy, deep space exploration, advanced integrated circuits, next-generation artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and cognitive confrontation.

(I) Science Popularization Works

Including physical science popularization works, science popularization animations, science popularization micro-videos, science popularization games, science popularization novels, science popularization picture books, etc.

Physical Science Popularization Works

Including physical works that can be used for science popularization exhibitions.

Submission Content: Photos of the work, demonstration video (no longer than 4 minutes), application document (including work introduction, topic selection, scientific principles and methods, purpose and ideas, and design plan).

Science Popularization Animations

We are including comic and animation works that use digital technology to process and store science popularization resources, forming a combination of graphics and audio, such as strip comics, story comics, four-panel animations, stop-motion animations, 2D/3D animation videos, etc.

Submission Content: Comics (minimum resolution of 1920*1080P, each image no less than 2MB), animation videos (frame rate no less than 12 frames/second, no longer than 4 minutes, with complete opening and ending credits; the opening must include the work's title, dialogue or narration in Mandarin or dialects is acceptable but must be subtitled in Chinese, and sources must be cited for references); application document (including creation script, scientific principles and content, creation background, purpose and ideas, sources cited).

Science Popularization Micro-videos

We are including but not limited to short videos and micro-films shot using various film and television techniques.

Submission Content: Micro-videos (no longer than 4 minutes, frame rate no less than 15 frames/second, with complete opening and ending credits, the opening must include the work's title, narration or dialogue in Mandarin, subtitled in Chinese, and sources must be cited for references); application document (including work introduction, script, scientific principles and content, creation background, purpose and ideas, sources cited).

Science Popularization Games

We are including but not limited to FLASH games, APP games, HTML5 games, EXE executable file games, etc.

Submission Content: Game interface screenshots, game operation demonstration videos (no longer than 4 minutes); compressed package of game source code; game works support systems such as Android, iOS, Windows, or macOS; application document (including work introduction, game script highlights, scientific principles and content, creation purpose, design ideas).

Science Popularization Novels

Including literary works with the theme of science popularization.

Submission Content: Electronic version of the novel (word count between 1000 and 15000); application document (including work introduction, topic selection, scientific principles and methods, purpose and ideas).

Science Picture Books

Including books mainly featuring original drawings and stories, and concise text explaining scientific knowledge.

Submission Content: Electronic version of the picture book (drawing techniques are unlimited, original drawings must be full-page, maximum size of 25cm x 35cm; each image no less than 2MB; no limit to the number of pages, at least four pages per set, each image and text must be named in the order of the story); application document (including work introduction, creative explanation, script, storyboard, character design, scientific principles and methods, creation process).

The application documents for all the above science popularization works should be in Word format (Office 2007 or later); images should be in JPG format (resolution no less than 300DPI); videos should be in MP4, AVI, or MOV format (resolution 1920*1080P, aspect ratio 16:9); compressed packages should be in RAR format.

(II) Science Popularization Performances

Including science experiment shows, science explanations, science skits, etc.

Science Experiment Shows

They are combining the educational elements of scientific experiments with the entertaining elements of interactive performances, highlighting the exciting aspects of scientific knowledge and principles with the assistance of experimental tools. The contestants themselves should prepare all equipment and materials required for the experiments; the experiment performances can be conducted by an individual or a team, with no restrictions on the specific format.

Submission Content: Photos and videos of the experiment show (the contestants themselves select the experiment content and the process should be filmed, no longer than 10 minutes, with complete opening and ending credits, the opening must include the work's title, dialogue in Mandarin, subtitled in Chinese); application document (including work introduction, creative explanation, creation purpose and methods, experiment design, scientific principles and methods).

Science Explanations

Including explaining scientific knowledge, interpreting scientific principles, and telling scientific stories through narration, explanation, reading, and lecturing.

Submission Content: Explanation videos (contestants should film the explanation process or record a PPT presentation themselves, no longer than 4 minutes; contestants can use multimedia and other means to assist in the explanation); application document (including work introduction, creative explanation, creation purpose and methods, scientific principles and methods).

Science Skits

Including presenting scientific knowledge and principles through performance dramas, such as creating situational dramas, stage dramas, plays, musical dramas, puppet shows, etc.

Submission Content: Skit videos (contestants should film the performance process themselves; contestants can prepare props, costumes, and stage makeup according to the storyline, performance no longer than 10 minutes); application document (including work introduction, creative explanation, script content, purpose and methods, scientific principles and methods).

The application documents for all the above science popularization performance works should be in Word format (Office 2007 or later); photos should be in JPG format (resolution no less than 300DPI); videos should be in MP4, AVI, or MOV format (resolution 1920*1080P, aspect ratio 16:9); compressed packages should be in RAR format.

V. Competition Schedule

From June to early September 2024, work submission. Each individual or team (team size limited to 2-6 people) should apply for the project in the unit of the first applicant. Each unit will conduct a preliminary selection and optimization of the projects recommended for the school competition.

Mid-September 2024, school competition review. The school will organize experts to review the works recommended by each unit and determine the list of award winners for the school competition.

From October to November 2024, provincial competition. Based on the results of the school competition, some outstanding works will be selected to participate in the provincial competition.


VI. Awards and Rewards

This competition offers several Special Awards, First Prizes, Second Prizes, and Third Prizes. Outstanding works will be selected, and participation in the 15th "Double Hundred" Competition in Anhui Provincewill be recommended. The mentors of works that win First Prize or above will be awarded the title of "Excellent Mentor" for this competition. The organizers of the provincial competition will reward the team members whose work has won Special Awards, First Prizes, Second Prizes, and Third Prizes.

VII. Requirements

Registration Period: From now until September 10, 2024.

Registration Method: Join the QQ group for competition notifications: 977239512 (real-name authentication required) using the format "Student ID-Name-Major".

VIII. Submission of Works

Electronic materials of the works (including the work application form) and a summary table should be submitted by each unit to jsjkczx2023@126.com by September 10, 2024. The file name should be "Student ID-Name-'Double Hundred' Competition Entry".

Participating teams must submit the required materials on time. Please pay attention to notifications in the group for confirmation of successful registration.
